LIFE & HEALTH FIRST BABY/COVERED CA.

60-day special enrollment period (SEP) is made available for the qualified individual who gained a dependent and for the infant or child to enroll in a Covered California qualified health plan (QHP).

The default coverage start date is the first of the month following the date of birth or QLE date. However, during the 60-day SEP, consumers (you) may request a different start date as listed below, and a retroactive effective date may be applied where appropriate:

  1. The date of the event (e.g., date of birth, adoption, foster care placement, or child support or court order), or

  2. The first of the month following plan selection

Note: A newborn child or a child placed for adoption is covered under the parent’s plan for a limited time, providing the parent is covered at the time of birth or adoption. This policy allows the parent to utilize the time the child is automatically covered under the parent’s insurance to make a QHP selection, while ensuring coverage continuity.
